Cheerful carnival parade

One of the most interesting and cheerful events throughout the year which children and adults look forward to is certainly a carnival.

The cheerful parade of colorful masks, costumes and allegorical floats which goes through streets and squares of bigger and smaller towns in Istria and entertains everyone with music, song and dance. Everyone can become someone else and forget about all the problems! Therefore, the carnival is a great opportunity for the family and friends to entertain themselves.

One of the biggest carnivals in Istria is held in Buzet and it's attended every year by more than a thousand participants. This year also Pula will become a part o the carnival joy where carnival squad take over the keys of the town which will last for one month. Among other cheerful carnival events in Istria is certainly Cerovlje and Ližnjan where carnival squad take over the keys of the town and organize dances, parades, running races under the masks and children can enjoy in the children's carnival in Labin.

The carnival traditionally ends by burning of the carnival mascot which is a masked doll made ​​of straw and old clothes. Its burning represents the clearence of all sins and any mischief which happened during carnival celebrations.

Carnival in Istria is a great opportunity to enjoy in a traditional pastry - fritula which resembles a small donut. It's also an opportunity to taste the real quality local wine at the carnival celebration.
