Asparagus, a taste of spring at the table
In spring, when days are warmer and sunnier, it is the right time to spend an active day in nature by walking and picking asparagus. And in the evening, happy and pleasantly tired from a day well spent, we will enjoy in various Istrian specialties.
Asparagus can be found everywhere, although it grows best in rocky, karst soils. It grows wild in bushes from March to June. The tender parts of its shoots are edible.
Asparagus specialties we recommend are fritaja (scrambled eggs) with asparagus - you can also add ham, bacon and sausage. Next, chopped asparagus in season salads - served with pasta dishes and meat, as a side dish; as well as asparagus creamy soup.
There are many events dedicated to wild asparagus this time of year. The traditional gourmet event Days of Istrian asparagus gives to all the asparagus lovers the possibility of tasting local specialties prepared with this Istrian delicacy in restaurants and taverns of northwest Istria.
Make sure not to miss the Gnam Gnam Fest - gastronomic event in Novigrad which is dedicated to asparagus and taste the dishes made of this healthy food.

Nature lovers will have the opportunity to participate in bike races and hiking adventures around Kaštel.
