Active holidays for the first sunny days

Every year, Istria is becoming more and more popular as an active winter holiday destination.
Numerous sports activities in picturesque Istrian surroundings have replaced the winter laziness of the peninsula.

Trekking (orientation running) and trail races (mountain running on marked trails) are increasing in popularity. 12th anniversary of the Istrian winter league proves how popular running is in Istria. There are different recreational from 6 to 8 kilometre races being held throughout the entire winter, up until March. Make sure not to miss the grand finale in Labin.

12th edition of Istra Trek race will be held this year in Motovun. Here too are 3 choices for the runners – Ultra (40 km), challenger (25 km) and light (12 km).

We are looking forward to February 18th and the Brtonigla Adventure trekk. There are 3 trekking categories to choose: Ultra (50 km), mountaineering (25 km) and fun&run (12 km). The trail is not marked but the checkpoints are.

April is reserved for the sports spectacle called 100 miles of Istria. 100 Miles of Istria is a trail race along the Istrian hiking trail, starting from the town of Labin, through Lovran, Buzet or Motovun and finishing in Umag. It consists of 5 different races of which three of them are perfect for ultra-race participants; one is intended for those who plan to improve their endurance in the future while the last one is a sweet city road trail. The completion of all races and the centre of events will be in Umag. The children race and city trail will be held there as well.

While some people run through beautiful landscapes of Istria, others prefer to take a tour on two wheels around the peninsula. There are several interesting and important international cycling races which are traditionally held every year. The races were recognized as important and thus listed in the calendar of the international Cycling Union (UCI).

Do not miss the fifth edition of the Umag trophy one-day race which will go through 160 km in north-western Istria. A few days after the Umag Trophy, Poreč will host the Poreč Trophy - a one day International cycling race on attractive locations in Poreč and its surroundings.

Top cyclists which compete for World Cup points can be seen in several demanding stages of the 14th edition of the Istrian Spring race while Poreč will host again this year a one-day race Gran Prix Laguna Poreč.

After demanding sport activities you will definitely enjoy taking a break, recovering all your lost energy. You can relax in diverse offer of Spa centres on the peninsula which offer a variety of possibilities.
Istrian cuisine is widely known for its top-quality ingredients and dishes which will complete the total impression you made of your stay in our region.

We wish you a pleasant active holiday in Istria!
