Great expectations for Poreč Major 2017
Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series - part of the FIVB World Tour - is coming back to Poreč for the third time. After the initial success of 2015 and even better Poreč Major 2016, all eyes are on Poreč for the 2017 Major which takes place from 27th June until 2nd July.
Last year there were a record 74,306 visitors to the Poreč Major, an increase of over ten thousand from 2015. The tournament became so popular in 2016 that 1,500 visitors had to be turned away from the men’s final match as the stadium was already at its full capacity of 5,000!
The Poreč Major is the second stop of the Beach Major series after Fort Lauderdale in February and has a grand total prize money of $600,000. Center Court matches are played in the splendid city bay of Peškera with perfect views towards the old town of Poreč - side courts are situated near the Valamar Zagreb hotel and tourist resort Zelena laguna.
The Poreč Major is a great combination of sport and entertainment which gives visitors unmissable Olympic level beach volleyball as well as other events and activities to enjoy in the Beach Village including an unforgettable night party after matches finish. The world’s best beach volleyball players world will play in Poreč - including Olympic gold medalists and German superstars Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst in the women's tournament and genius Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt. The Brazilians won gold last year and after their total domination in Fort Lauderdale things look set to be pretty spectacular in Croatia!
