Tennis jubilee - the Istrian Riviera celebrates its 40th birthday
This March in Umag, the Istrian Riviera, an ITF Futures tournament will be gathering 120 senior players from 12 countries. The matches will be played between 10 and 18 March on the central field of the Stella Maris sports/tourist complex, with a 10 thousand Dollar prize fund.
The Men's Tennis Tournament is just one of several taking place each year in the towns on the western Istrian coast under the common name of Istrian Riviera. The tournament cycle started in 1972, in Umag exactly, and now it is returning to the town of its origin, after four whole decades of successful organisation and competition.
Since it is associated with the very beginnings of significant tennis development on the Istrian peninsula as well as with the beginnings of tennis' association with tourism, the Istrian Riviera tennis tournament has gained the status of an institution among regional sport events.
The organiser is the Top Spin tennis club, providing the contestants with a whole array of top services – from lodgings and wellness centres to culinary services and leisure activities.
