Naive Art in Istria
31.08.2012 - 23.09.2012
The Naive Art in Istria is an exhibition of paintings and sculptures in the seaside town of Funtana. With its long tradition, committed exhibitors and even more committed audience, it brings new artistic masterpieces every summer, mainly from the amateurs from the whole Istria, which are pursuing the naive art genre. That expression used to be linked to painters and sculptors without formal education, although the artists who graduated from art academies have been pursuing this genre recently. The naive art is defined by its special approach to perspective and colour usage, which make the artworks appear harmonious and static. It is the global art genre which the most intensively appears in Istria in the very town of Funtana, through the annual exhibition in the charming gallery named Zgor murve. The exhibitors in Funtana come from the whole Istria and they are mostly selftaught. They tackle the landscapes and idyllic motifs of the Istrian village, and in the last 18 years that they have been gathering here, they acquired many fans among the local as well as the international audience.
