Golf

Did you know that golf is one of the oldest sports in history?

The beginnings of golf were mentioned in Scotland, during the 14th century and it has been assumed that the first players were shepherds who guarded on sheep at a spacious Scottish pastures. As a hole they used the rabbit hole, and sticks were made from wood.

In Croatia, the game called "prasičkanje" were mentioned which was all about the people who by stick tried to throw a stone into a hole in the ground.

In the year 1854 the oldest active Golf club in the world - The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews were founded. The club has made the first written golf rules which are currently active.

Golf is one of the few sports that has managed to preserve the distinction between professionalism and amateurism. Although it's not Olympic sport (for certain time period it was), golf, along with football and basketball is the most popular sport in the world.

Professional golf is managed by PGA (Professional Golf Association), and national amateur the Golf associations by each country, joined into the European Alliance (EGA) and the World Alliance IGF (International Golf Federation).

Although as a true golf destination Istria is only being formed, it already offers pleasant moments for golf in one of its heavenly nooks.
