Istria is famous for tennis: there are around 430 tennis clay courts available to play on throughout the year.
The best-known tournaments are the Istrian Riviera and ATP Studena Croatia Open. Istrian Riviera is the name for the series of tennis tournaments that are traditionally held during preseason in Istrian towns and tourist centers Poreč, Rovinj and Vrsar. This is the ITF (International Tennis Federation) men's Futures tennis tournament with the longest tradition in Croatia, where the great tennis careers have been started by Goran Ivanisević, Boris Becker, Thomas Muster, Goran Prpić, and many other tennis players.
In the town of Umag is held worldwide known ATP Studena Croatia Open, the most prominent tennis tournament in Croatia and the region, with more than two decades of tradition. At the calendar of ATP, Umag has always stood out not only as a spot where great tennis has been played, but also for a rich program of extra tourist, gastronomic and entertainment events.
