After placing Istria among the most interesting world travel destinations, Fodor's Travel, a renowned US tourist portal, flatters it again by ranking it among the best enogastronomic European destinations - Best Places to Visit for Food & Wine in Europe.

Istria has been ranked among European destinations which must be visited for its food and wine, thus joining the company of the most famous gastronomic destinations in the world.

Fodor's has ranked Istria side by side with gastronomic destinations including Burgundy, Provance, Paris, Florence, the Loire river valley, Tuscany, the Amalfi coast, Lyon, Rome, Milan, the Champagne region, Madrid and Normandy. The Istrian Peninsula has been presented as a new enogastronomic star of Europe accompanied by the Austrian valley of the Danube.

Portal Fodors.com describes Istrian food as sophisticated and different from food offered by other regions of Croatia emphasizing Istrian large efforts focused on gastronomic tourism. They were especially impressed by simple dishes prepared from fresh sea fruits and fish, Istrian pasta called 'fuži', truffles as well as by Istrian prosciutto, traditional red wine vegetable soup called 'maneštra'. Restaurants and wine cellars are warmly recommended emphasizing that Istria offers the best meal in the country at affordable prices.
