Location and climate
Savudrija is located on the western coast of Istria. In winter months the wind Bora blows from the north and brings clear and cold weather. Yugo brings rain and high humidity whereas Maestral brings freshness from the sea in summer months and moderates the summer sultriness and heat.
The climate is Mediterranean with the elements of continental climate. The average air temperature in the winter is 7°C and in the summer 24°C whereas the average annual temperature is 15,3°C. The sea temperatures range from the minimal 9°C in winter months to the maximal 26°C in August.
These specific microclimatic conditions influence the richness of Mediterranean vegetation with the abundance of plants growing at the coast zone like laurel, palm trees, evergreen bushes, downy oak, pines, cypresses, olive trees and lavish woods. A high salt concentration in the water (37,8 ‰) and pollen from plants as natural aerosols are dispersed by the wind or fall back to the ground as precipitation, keeping the air ‘clean’ and the climate in Savudrija very simulative and beneficial for health.
