The excellent collaboration between the Istrian County Tourism Department and renowned Italian journalist Massimiliano Rella specialized in enogastronomy continues, his articles being published in numerous Italian reviews and specialized magazines. The last reports on our region written by this important opinion maker, were published in magazines Vigne&Vini (November edition 2009), Weekend & Viaggi (www.edmaster.it/weekendeviaggi), namely, two reports in the April and June edition, as well as a detailed report on Istria on 14 pages in the June edition of the Viaggiando magazine (http://www.viaggiando.tv/).

Presentation of Istria in Italy

On Wednesday, 23 June in the restaurant La Locanda di Piero (http://lalocandadipiero.it/it/ristorante.html) in Montecchio Precalcino (Vicenza), Istrian autochthonous products will be presented. On this occasion, the Poreč company Agrolaguna will present its extra virgin olive oils, while Moreno Degrassi from Bašanija will present the wines, and the dishes served will be prepared with the Istrian black truffle.

A group of American journalists visits Istria

At the end of this month, Istrian County Administrative Department for Tourism, in collaboration with American marketing agency Soiree Publishing, is hosting five renowned journalists from different parts of the USA specialized in tourism and travel. For this occasion a special, non-conventional program has been prepared presenting them with the Istrian tourist potentials, especially those related to high quality tourism for guests of higher purchasing power and specific needs and wishes. And Istria has a lot to offer in this respect - especially tailored itinerary foresees visits to the best Istrian restaurants, taverns, boutique hotels, rural villas, wine cellars, oil mills and other attractions and products presenting Istrian competitive advantages with regard to other tourist regions in the world.

Presentation of Istria in Barolo - Langhe (Piemonte, Italy)

Aiming at promoting its new wine cellar, from 12 till 16 June, association Terre da Vino organized a great manifestation lasting for 5 days. The principal goal of this event is to present themselves to the most important entities in the field of enogastronomy (restaurants, enologists, hotels etc.), journalists, opinion leaders and public sector. On this occasion Istrian County will enter to the front door of the beautiful wine cellar Terre da Vino, and present its potentials in the heart of one of the most famous winemaking areas in the world. Considering that Istria has been chosen as the region with the best extra virgin olive oil, MIH company from Poreč with its numerous awarded oils will have the honour of presenting it.

On Sunday 30 May ''Open Wine Cellar Day'' in Istria - announcement

Again this year, Istria Tourist Board in collaboration with the Istrian County Administrative Department for Tourism and Vinistra - the association of winemakers and winegrowers of Istria organize the ''Open Wine Cellar Day'' manifestation which has been traditionally held on the last Sunday in May. So that on Sunday, 30 May, from 10 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., more than 80 renowned winemakers all over Istria are opening their wine cellars' doors to the visitors thus marking the World's Wine Day which plays an important role in promoting wine culture and creating Istria's image as a recognizable wine destination. During the ''Open Wine Cellar Day'' wine lovers, as well as those who will become ones, will have the possibility to taste the best Istrian wines and find out the way winemakers make top quality and world renowned wines by combining the traditional and modern way of growing grape vines.

Istrian olive growers took part in the Medoliva fair in Arezzo, Italy

Last weekend, from 14th till 17th May, the MEDOLIVA fair was held in Arrezzo (Italy), presenting the best Meditteranean extra virgin olive oils. The selection was made by a team of experts headed by Marco Oreggia, one of the most renowned olive oil experts, publisher and editor of the most significant world extra virgin olive oil guide - Flos Olei.

Istrian olive oil producers awarded at the 4th International Olive Oil Competition ''ARMONIA'' competing for the ''ALMA'' Trophy

As we’ve already announced, again this year the International Extravirgin Oliveoil Agency in collaboration with ALMA – International School of Italian Cooking headed by famous Italian chef Gualtiero Marchesi and CRA - Olive Research Institute, organized the International Olive Oil Competition ''ARMONIA'' , ''ALMA'' Trophy. The fourth edition of the competition is intended for international producers of the best extra virgin olive oils, with the aim of promoting awareness and knowledge of extra virgin olive oil through harmonization of flavor in pairing food with olive oil in gourmet cooking schools and international restaurants in New York, Toronto, Montreal, Heidelberg, Sao Paolo, Tokyo, Seoul... After having achieved very good results the previous years, Istrian extra virgin olive oil producers took part in it again this year confirming the extraordinary quality of its extra virgin olive oils.

Istria, its wines and tastes

The second special gathering in Relais Monaco in Ponzano Veneto at the exhibition ''Venice meets Europe'' on 21st May. After a successful evening dominated by the king of the wines of Venice, an unavoidable event entitled ISTRIA, ITS WINES AND TASTES will take place. Istria is close, especially to Venice, due to which it became a part of the Venetian Republic – the Venetian started conquering a big part of Istria as early as 12th century – marking its dishes by homemade gastronomic tastes of the Venetian lagoon. The evening begins at 19.30 with a musical dedication to the Venetian Republic performed by ''La Tavola Armonica'', a 20 element band which combines old Venetian songs with recitals.

Istria Valamar Terra Magica 2010

The fifth international MTB race entitled "Istria Valamar Terra Magica" was held as planned, but this time it lasted for three days not just one. The race was organized by the Istrian County Administrative Department for Tourism, Istria Tourist Board and IRTA d.o.o., along with the main sponsors Agrolaguna d.d., Favorit, Keindl sport and Milsing d.o.o. Zagreb. The applications received had been announcing a well-attended race, however, extremely bad weather conditions in the last couple of weeks have made a significant number of participants cancel their arrival. In spite of this, some 130 cyclists from Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Austria rode the race.

Promotion of Istrian chefs and restaurants into the international association Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe

On 10 May 2010 starting at 13.00 in the restaurant of the San Rocco Hotel in Brtonigla a promotion ceremony is going to be held on the occasion of including four Istrian chefs and restaurants into this prestigious international association gathering the best young chefs from all over Europe. The honour of representing Istria in this association belongs to Teo Frenetich from the San Rocco restaurant from Brtonigla, Matteo Beletic from the Damir&Ornella restaurant and Marin Rendić from the Pepenero restaurant (both from Novigrad) and Danijel Đekić from the Monte restaurant (Rovinj). The JRE representatives will award them with special personalized aprons with their names as well as official labels for their restaurants.
