Pula/Medulin

Welcome to the 3000 years of history! The history of Pula-Pola starts with the myth of the Argonauts and the search for the Golden Fleece. It was the home of the Histrians, the Romans and the Venetians. Once the central Austrian port, today it is the largest cultural and economic center of Istria. Various layers of history took part in the making of this unique town in which Roman temples defy baroque palaces, early Christian churches stand face to face to Austrian villas, and the remnants of mediaeval walls are cut through by antique town gates.

Vrsar/Funtana

Žminj

If all the roads in Europe lead to Rome, then all the roads in Istria lead to Žminj, the centre of Istria and the old intersection. On the sole cross-roads below the town there is Calvary from 1720. Žminj was the town of Pazin-Pisino County which was taken over by the Venetians only for a year in 1617.

Rovinj-Rovigno

The old town nucleus lies on a conical promontory which was until 1763 part of a coastal islet. In the 18th century the channel was filled up, so the town was connected with the mainland. At that time Rovinj-Rovigno was the most densely populated town in the Venetian part of Istria after Kopar.

Bale-Valle

The town of Bale-Valle is situated at a height of 140 meters above sea level and lies at the intersection of roads leading to Rovinj-Rovigno, Pula-Pola and Trieste, only 5 kilometres from the sea. The town developed around the medieval castle of the Sardo and Bembo families in the 15th century.

Vodnjan-Dignano is a small town in the southwest of Istria, around 12 km from Pula, positioned at 135 meters above sea level. The town was formed on the remains of prehistoric hill forts.

In the far south-east of Istria, among Mediterranean broom vegetation lies fishing and agricultural village Ližnjan-Lisignano whose hilltop overlooks the Kvarner bay and the islands of Cres and Lošinj. Barban is a small historical village situated on the plateau separating the Labin-Albona from Pula-Pola area. Ancient Romans used to live in the prehistoric hill-fort. Throughout history Barban had a strategical position dominating the high ground and controlling the valley and the bridge on the Raša river.

Vrsar-Orsera

Vrsar-Orsera is situated at the same mouth of the Lim Channel, on a 54 metres high hill. The original settlement was set on the very top of the hill. The original settlement was set on the very top of the hill, but later on it spread down the hill slopes. The present-day Vrsar-Orsera has developed along the sea - shore.
