Žminj rose on the hill, in the very center of the heart-shaped Istrian peninsula, between the east and west coast, between the Raša valley and the Lim bay, where it seems as if the eastern and western seas are trying to meet. Ancient inhabitants fortified their settlement at the very hilltop, where the current Castle is situated.
The village of Žminj is small, but there are a few interesting things to see around the area. Try different cheeses, especially truffle cheese. And just outside Žminj there is a cave with an impressive inside view, Festinsko kraljevstvo (Kingdom of Festini). It takes about 20 minutes to walk around it and it’s a fun experience. Photography tip: The cave is dimly lit so bring a tripod to get good, clear photos.
