Exibition Dobra kob! / Good hunting!

The tradition of hunting on the hunting grounds of Umag and Savudrija (and beyond) is a project of the Umag Town Museum that was launched with the desire to support the local community by revealing another traditional value of Umag and Buje area.

The earliest archival documents - hunting maps from 1813 - speak of the early presence of hunting in this area.

The first hunting society the Circolo dei cacciatori di Umago, which had its own statute, was founded in 1925, so the tradition of hunting is deeply rooted in the Buje region, whilst this exhibition reminds us of the 96 years of organised hunting in the same area.

On average, in the 1970s, every 35th inhabitant in the Buje region was a hunter. The love for hunting was nurtured within the family and was often passed from the great-grandfather hunter to the grandfather, his son and his grandson. Hunting is a sporting activity, and since the 1960s it has begun to develop as an indispensable economic and tourist potential of the Buje region.

This exhibition has been realised thanks to the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media together with the Town of Umag and with the great support of storytellers - hunters, gamekeepers, cynologists, breeders and champion shooters as well as all those enthusiasts who created hunting here, but also who spread their knowledge throughout Croatia and around the world, who were an inexhaustible source of data, providing photographic materials, documents and objects for the construction of the GOOD HUNTING exhibition!
