About the event:

The exhibition will present seven large-format works created using a mixed media technique of acrylic, sand, and seashells on canvas. The exhibited works are part of a broader painting cycle that the artist has been developing since early 2023, in which she explores her own identity, inner states, and personal perception of time.

Although abstract at first glance, the works are connected by the motif of the self-portrait, understood not as a literal depiction of the artist's physical appearance, but as a deconstructed image of the artist herself and a trace of her inner world. Rather than depicting reality as it objectively exists, the artist captures the way reality is experienced in a particular moment. Each painting thus becomes a record of suspended, frozen time, expressed through the interplay of colours, layers, textures, and expressive gestural brushstrokes.

Expressive and gestural brushstrokes become traces of directly lived moments. For Janis Beletić, the process of painting represents an authentic way of being and of confronting questions of meaning, personal purpose, and the individual's place in the world. As she herself summarizes the relationship between life and artistic creation: "I paint because I breathe; I breathe because I paint."

The exhibition is open to visitors Monday to Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
