Hotel Lone on the Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List 2012

Condé Nast Travelera US has picked its Hot List of new hotels for 2012 and Hotel Lone is the only Croatian hotel to have made the cut.

All reviews were anonymous, with 41 CNT reporters travelling the globe to find the world's best new hotels and spas. This is what they had to say about Hotel Lone:

The specs: A 248-room design hotel in Zlatni Rt (Golden Cape) Forest Park, a coastal reserve on the Istrian Peninsula. The showpiece town of Rovinj is a short stroll away.

The look: A contempo take on a classic 1970s Adriatic resort hotel, designed down to the deck chairs by an all-star team with Croatian architectural studio 3LHD at its helm. The gleaming-white Y-shaped building rises out of the forest like a landlocked cruise ship; light-flooded, airy interiors incorporate flowing beige-golden fabrics, hanging gardens, rich murals, and an ethereal suspended steel sculpture in the six-story lobby.

The experience: Don't expect intimate, particularly if your stay coincides with a conference (a frequent occurrence outside peak summer months). That said, Croatia's it hotel is a hit with Euro weekenders and well-heeled Croats for its stark-meets-sexy design and proximity to one of the prettiest towns on the Adriatic. There's bicycling and rock climbing in Zlatni Rat Forest Park, and a walkway leads to a pebble beach. Notable, too, is the pro attitude of the staff in a country not known for its customer service.

About Hotel Lone:

July 2011 saw the opening of developer Maistra's new property, Hotel Lone, in the picturesque Istrian resort of Rovinj, Croatia. The 248-key hotel is situated in a unique location near the sea, surrounded by centuries-old Park Forest Zlatni Rt and only a few minutes walk to the town centre. It is a strikingly modern build in the shape of an ocean liner - a playful reference to its Adriatic location. Together with the five-star Hotel Monte Mulini (opened March 2009), and hotels Eden and Park, Lone is part of the exclusive Cap Aureo Conference Centre.

Hotel Lone was designed as a contemporary expression of the classic Croatian resort hotel from the 1970s, with sea-facing terraces and large lobbies, by the 3LHD architectural team from the Croatian Faculty of Architecture under the guidance of architect Silvije Novak. Interiors saw 3LHD working with Croatian designers Numen. In 2009, whilst still on the drawing board, Hotel Lone became the first Croatian member of exclusive lifestyle brand Design Hotels AG.
