After having recently won the Best Congress Hotel in Europe Award, Lone has added another accolade to its collection by winning the prestigious Best Hotel Architecture Design Award at the European Hotel Design Awards 2012 in the New Build of the Year category. The jury described Croatia’s first member of Design Hotels “a stunning piece of architecture on the Istrian coastline”.

The awards ceremony was held in London during the 15th Sleep event that is organized every year in November by the leading British magazine for hotel design, development and architecture Sleeper. On the occasion of receiving the award Lone’s General Manager Peter Lösch said: “Only a year after Lone’s opening in June 2011 we have already received numerous awards for excellence in architecture and design. Lone has been recognized as original and modern and noted for its quality by guests, partners and industry professionals. This award once again confirms that Lone and Rovinj have achieved the international level of excellence.”

This was also confirmed by the judging panel who said that Lone is a stunning piece of architecture on the Istrian coastline in Croatia that not only makes the most of its location but enhances it also. The judges felt this was a bold statement that worked well with the landscape, created many interesting and thoughtful spaces and played with the numerous interactions of plane, light and volume notably in the public areas. For a relatively young team of designers and architects inexperienced in hospitality design this was a stand-out winner for the judging panel.

The 3LHD architectural team was engaged for the realization of the project and the hotel was designed by young Croatian designers and artists: product design group Numen designed the furniture; studio 92 is responsible for the wellness center and I-GLE studio design team created designs for the clothes worn by Lone employees and selected the fabrics for the hotel. Ivana Franke, a conceptual artist, made a huge spatial sculpture in the hotel lobby “Room for running ghosts”, while Silvio Vujičić worked on the interior, creating graphic art for the rooms and a kind of a bio-machine “In the hanging garden no one speaks”, mounted on the wall at the entrance to Lone.

The Sleep event is the only international hotel event to focus entirely on hotel design, development and architectural excellence. Hotel Lone competed with more than 200 applicants including some of the world’s leading hotel brands, while the judging panel consisted of important names from the field such as Chair of Judges Simon Ford of InterContinental Hotels Group, James Dilley of Jestico & Whiles, Gregoir Chikaher of Arup and Celia Geyer of Hilton Worldwide.

Lone was opened in June last year as the first five-star design hotel in Croatia. Construction costs were about HRK 350 million and Croatian designers and artists worked on the architecture and interior and exterior design. Hotel features 248 spacious, fashionable accommodation units with a sea view, more specifically 236 rooms, 11 suites and one presidential suite covering 129 square meters. Lone has everything for a perfect stay: two fine dining restaurants, seafood bar, kids club, themed bars, night club, spa & wellness center covering 1,700 square meters and 10 multi-purpose auditoriums, with the largest offering a seating capacity for 650 people.
