Croatia boasts even 4 campsites awarded for their high quality standards. In this way the campsites joined the exclusive group of 137 European campsites (out of a total of 5.450 campsites presented in the ADAC camping guide). Until now, in the “old” rating system, Croatia had only two Best Campistes, while this year we have two new laureates (in alphabetical order):

• Lanterna, Poreč (ex. Superplatz)
• Park Umag, Umag
• Naturist Campsite Valalta, Rovinj
• Holiday Resort Zaton, Zadar (ex. Superplatz) 

Additionally, ADAC and ANWB highlighted 17 Croatian campsites which, compared to the previous year, made significant improvements to the level of their services and facilities.

This recognition for the quality rise won 5 campsites in Istria: Park Umag in Umag, Lanterna in Poreč (Tar-Vabriga), Valalta in Rovinj, Brioni near Pula and Marina in Rabac.

At the begining of 2013, the German automobile club ADAC presented the new camping-guide concept. The most significant change is the cooperation with the ANWB, the Royal Dutch Touring Club - the two clubs joined they forces and coordinated the campsite inspections, built up a new database and standardized a new voting system which was exclusively presented to the participants of the Gala event on the evening of 11th January.

The well known ADAC awards Superplatz and Yellow table as well as the ANWB’s Euro-Top award, are now part of history. Today, they are replaced by the BestCamping Award, which will distinguish extra-quality campsites with outstanding results during the inspections.

Instead of five, every campsite is evaluated in ten categories, which mainly derive from dividing the existing 5 categories into two, so the campsites receive votes in the following 10 categories: sanitary facilities - quantity & quality, campsite area - pitches & campsite area in general; supplies - shopping facilities & catering; leisure time - facilities & animation; swimming facilities - sea & swimming pools.
