About the event:

Solo Photography Exhibition

“Enchanted Forest – The Forgotten World of Croatia’s Mythical Creatures” is the title of an exhibition by professional independent Croatian photographer of the younger generation, Iva Lulić, who has dedicated a significant part of her artistic photographic work over the past fifteen years to the authorial visual interpretation of stories and legends from Old Slavic mythology.

One of the projects in this series is “Enchanted Forest – The Forgotten World of Croatia’s Mythical Creatures”, which presents a visualized mythical tale about the gods Perun and Veles (Volos), the goddess Mokoš, and the young deities Juraj (George) and Mara/Morana. Through this narrative, the author subtly weaves a metaphorical story about the passage of time, the changing seasons, natural phenomena, the cult of the tree (particularly the oak), and life itself as a process of continuous development within a living cosmos that is constantly renewing itself.

The project was supported in 2020 by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and was realized in 2021 as a digital picture book. It emerged from the collaboration between Iva Lulić, the project’s author and leader, and Zdenko Bašić, a multimedia artist who created the visual designs for the characters in the story. A group of artistic collaborators also participated in the realization of the project.

On this occasion, the project is presented in the gallery as a visual art exhibition in the form of a photo essay, conveying the aforementioned mythical story through a series of photographs accompanied by texts that complement the imagery. In this way, image and word become equal spatial actors within the exhibition’s overall visual iconosphere and immersive visual experience.
