About the event:

An exhibition by the Croatian History Museum and curator Zrinka Podhraški Čizmek

The Croatian History Museum is presenting the international exhibition “Adriatic and Ionian Shipping in the Early Modern Period (1650–1850)” in Rovinj-Rovigno. The exhibition is the result of many years of interdisciplinary research conducted by historian Zrinka Podhraški Čizmek and an international team brought together through the CROMARESHIP project.

The exhibition offers the most comprehensive visual reconstruction of vessels from the Adriatic and Ionian regions between the 17th and 19th centuries. It is based on the author’s research, which included the analysis of nearly 20,000 documents from the Croatian Maritime Regesta of the 18th century, and presents as many as 62 types of historical vessels, visually reconstructed by painter and historical ship researcher Luigi Divari.

The exhibition also provides a rare insight into everyday maritime life, trade routes, the technical characteristics of ships, and the rich maritime terminology shaped by the diverse cultural and political systems of the Adriatic region. The interdisciplinary work of around twenty experts from Croatia, Italy, Greece, and Montenegro involved in the project ensures exceptional breadth and makes a significant contribution to maritime historical research.

Opening: Saturday at 6:00 PM. Admission: Free.
