Pilato

Vižinada-Visinada

The Pilato family farm is located in the village of Lašići, near Vižinada, one of the most important Istrian wine grand crus, and their tradition of winemaking and viticulture spans over four generations. Ivan Pilato started everything by planting a small vineyard back in 1934, and his successor, son Končeto, continued the expansion of wine production in the 1960s. Končeto's son Eliđo raised everything to today's very high level in the 1990s and positioned the winery as one of the most important in Istria. Today, his children Karin, Sanja and Sanjin are slowly taking over the business as the fourth generation of this exceptional family. OPG Pilato cultivates twenty hectares of vineyards with an assortment ratio of 70:30 in favour of white varieties, and they are present on the market with a dozen wine labels. From the beginning, their forte were light, fresh white wines, for which they have won a number of awards, especially for their Istrian malvasia and chardonnay. From the red grape assortment, they grow merlot and cabernet sauvignon, as well as teran. Among the aged wines, Malvazija sur Lie and the classic Bordeaux coupage with a small addition of teran Grande cuvée are worth mentioning.
