Forest poets meeting

Forest poets are a unique poetry event that takes place once a year in a forest glade above the Butori Chasm near Grožnjan.

Moving from an urban to a rural environment is one of its advantages and interesting features that distinguishes it from other poetry events. The Forest poets meeting was initiated by Goran Blažević and Maja Klarić in 2011. Since then, the meeting has been held regularly at the beginning of August, with the continuous support of the Grožnjan Municipality.

The theme and goal of the meeting is based on the idea of a return to nature, coexistence with it, as well as the sustainable use of natural resources and an environmentally friendly way of life. The intention of the organisers is to expand the number of participants, collaborators, partners, and sponsors, but on the condition that the meetings remain conceptually and functionally identical to the first meeting in 2011 – minimal intervention in the landscape is intended to emphasise the importance of preserving the pristine beauty of nature and the forest landscape. The forest glade is illuminated exclusively by mini candles and torches and no technical aids are allowed in order to interfere with nature as little as possible. In the evening, readings by the bonfire begin, in Croatian and in the mother tongues of visiting poets.
