Gualtiero Mocenni: A Work of Heart and Mind
This major retrospective exhibition celebrates the work of one of the most renowned contemporary artists from Istria, Gualtiero Mocenni, showcasing nearly 130 pieces from his extraordinary 70-year career.
While Mocenni is best known in Pula and Istria for his iconic public sculptures—24 of which are in Istria and over 90 worldwide—this exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to delve into his paintings and smaller sculptural works. His monumental pieces are displayed on a large screen within this stunning gallery space, complemented by a documentary film that offers a captivating look at the artist’s life and work, filled with fascinating archival material.
Beloved and well-known to all, the artist marks his 90th birthday with this retrospective!
"This is essentially my 70th anniversary of working, though I’ve been drawing and painting for much longer. My elementary school teacher was always extremely pleased with my work. I’m happy that I’ve spent my entire life doing what I love, and that I’m still doing it at 90," shared Gualtiero Mocenni, affectionately known as Walter by the people of Pula, during the exhibition opening.
To celebrate the artist’s birthday on February 6th, a special promotion of the exhibition catalog will be held at Sveta srca. The exhibition curators are Dunja Martić Štefan and Slađana Bukovac.
