Peškaluna: Perila stories
The perila washbasins were once the freshwater springs of Funtana, but they were far more than a source of water. For centuries, they were a vibrant meeting place where generations of Funtana's women gathered to wash their laundry, share stories, and strengthen community ties, while local fishermen set out to sea each day and returned with the catch that provided for their families.
Peškaluna brings this heritage to life through authentic demonstrations, traditional games, live music, and local gastronomy, transporting visitors to a time when the sea, fishing, and abundant freshwater springs shaped everyday life in Funtana.
Throughout the evening, enjoy a variety of experiences inspired by life in the early 20th century. Members of the Loza Women's Association will demonstrate the traditional way of washing laundry at the Perila, while classic children's games will evoke a time when the streets served as every child's playground. You can also watch the traditional craft of weaving and repairing fishing nets - a skill that was an essential part of local fishing life for generations.
The event also celebrates a variety of traditional crafts that once played an important role in everyday life across the region. Alongside fishing net making, visitors can watch demonstrations of wool spinning with a drop spindle, willow basket weaving, and handmade papermaking.
Peškaluna is an immersive event that invites everyone to take part. Its name combines the local word peška, meaning "fishing", with luna, meaning "moon", evoking the enchanting image of a moonlit fishing village.
Round off the evening with local delicacies, regional products, and a lively dance party featuring timeless favourites for all generations.
