St. Mary of the Rosary

The rich history of Mutvoran — a small village in the southern part of the Istrian peninsula — lives on in the remnants of prehistoric hillforts and medieval walls. Inside the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene, visitors can admire precious artistic treasures, including a wedding wreath and the altar crafted by Paolo Campsa de Boboti. Just outside the village entrance, the loggia displays a fascinating bestiary.

The celebration of St. Mary of Rosary brings the village to life with old-style socializing and lively traditional music. A festive procession winds through the streets, while the Traditional crafts fair offers entertainment for all ages — especially children.

This authentic showcase of traditional crafts brings together artisans who demonstrate nearly forgotten skills such as stonemasonry, woodworking, pottery, ceramics, fishing techniques, and the making of traditional instruments, souvenirs, and handmade creations. Some will demonstrate techniques like crocheting and doily making, knitting, decorative embroidery, cotton and linen dyeing, beeswax candle crafting, and the creation of practical and decorative items the old-fashioned way.

Local gastronomy takes centre stage as well, with winemakers, brandy distillers, and beekeepers presenting their specialties. Throughout the event, traditional dances, folk songs, and music played on accordions, mih (Istrian bagpipe), roženice (Istrian woodwind instrument), and other regional instruments keep spirits high.
