NOVA Eroica Istria 2026

A gravel spectacle on the Istrian country lanes, May 1st and 2nd:
The second edition of the NOVA Eroica Istria event brings three spectacular gravel routes and exceptional gourmet experiences to a two-day cycling festival in the heart of north-western Istria

NOVA Eroica Istria in May 2026 unveils fresh gravel adventures across one of Europe’s most breath-taking landscapes. Following the hugely successful premiere edition in September 2025, the festival returns on May 1 and 2, 2026. At its core are Istria’s gravel roads, historic pathways, and culinary experiences that, after just one edition, have already secured its place among Europe’s most distinctive gravel events.

Three routes through the heart of Istria:
Saturday, May 2
Saturday is the festival’s main highlight, serving up an irresistible gravel experience with three masterfully crafted routes that blend challenge, scenery, and the rich cultural heritage of the region. Over 80% of the course winds along sterrato routes, preserving the authentic spirit of Eroica while offering a ride that’s truly hard to match anywhere else.

•     Truffles Route (150 km)
The longest and most demanding route, perfect for cyclists craving a deep dive into Istria’s wild and wonderfully aromatic interior. The route winds through iconic spots such as Motovun, Livade, and Oprtalj - landscapes celebrated for their truffles, wines, and irresistible medieval charm.

•     Teran Route (100 km)
A timeless favourite for riders seeking the ideal blend of challenge and pure enjoyment. The Teran Route unfolds like a gravel rhapsody, leading you across rolling hills, vineyards, and historic towns.

•     Malvasia Route (60 km)
A gentler and more picturesque alternative to the Teran Route, Malvasia is perfect for newcomers to gravel or anyone wanting a laid-back ride filled with panoramic views.

All three routes are crafted to highlight everything that makes Istria extraordinary: its natural diversity, authentic settings, and gastronomic heritage.

History on wheels: Parenzana, flavours, and Istrian hilltop towns
Parts of the routes trace the legendary Parenzana, a former railway reborn as Istria’s most iconic cycling touristic trail. Along the way, riders are treated to a series of gourmet and atmospheric stops: truffles, extra-virgin olive oils, cheeses, prosciutto, and the exceptional wines that have secured Istria’s worldwide acclaim.

Cyclists roll through enchanting towns such as Grožnjan, Buje, and Motovun, where stone-paved streets, vistas, and a timeless historic charm create the perfect setting for a pause - and a few unforgettable photos.

A day for vintage flair and family-friendly rides:
Friday, May 1
The festival’s opening day is crafted especially for recreational cyclists, families, and anyone who loves a dash of retro style:

•     Vintage Tour – for riders who cherish classic bicycles, nostalgic aesthetics, and the spirit of road cycling’s golden era
•     Eroica Family Bike Tour – a gentle, safe ride perfect for cyclists of all ages
Ciclo Club Eroica Tour – a gourmet journey through local farms, vineyards, and villages, for Ciclo Club members

Novigrad: The festival core of gravel culture
The start and finish of all rides take place in Novigrad, which transforms into the beating heart of the gravel community. The EXPO zone, brand showcases, tastings, talks, and live music blend sport, culture, and gourmet pleasures into an atmosphere that draws cyclists from around the world.

“Istria has everything a true Eroica experience demands: a network of lovely country lanes that are both safe and inspiring, authentic gastronomy, and breath-taking scenery. Our goal is for every participant to leave not only with a completed sporting challenge, but with an unforgettable sense of place - to taste, see, and truly feel authentic Istria by bike,” says Denis Ivošević, Director of the Istria Tourist Board.
