Delaware Choral Scholars

The 100-voice choir consists of community members who participate in the University of Delaware Schola Cantorum, in addition to students and alumni, many of whom are members of the internationally renowned Delaware Choral Scholars.

The community-based Schola Cantorum frequently performs major works with amateur and professional orchestra, such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Verdi’s Requiem.

The Delaware Choral Scholars is primarily a touring ensemble dedicated to the performance of virtuosic choral works, often in competitive international festivals. Most recently, they were awarded the Grand Prize at the Tolosa (Spain) Choral Competition, in addition to receiving the #1 Interkultur choir at the 2024 World Choir Games in New Zealand, in addition to top prizes at the Marktoberdorf (Germany) Choral Festival in Bavaria in 2025.
The two ensembles are meeting together in Rovinj for a “summer retreat” to rehearse sacred choral masterpieces to include works by Mendlesohn, Stanford, and Bruckner, in addition to works by celebrated American composers including Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen, and Eric Whitacre. The week-long project will conclude with a concert at Rovinj’s historic St. Euphemia Church, featuring music by the recently restored pipe organ as well.

Principal faculty members include Paul D Head from the University of Delaware and Prof. Paul Mealor, the Welsh composer known for his many collaborations with the British Royal Family, including the composition of music for the wedding of Prince William and Kate, and the coronation of King Charles.
