Dario Jurjević – Between Light and Time
This exhibition consists of sixty photographs created using old photographic techniques: Van Dyke, Cyanotype, and the Gumoil process. Dario acquired these skills—rarely practiced today—from the renowned master photographer Miroslav Arbutina from Sisak, who promotes photography through historical photographic processes. The Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia states that works created using historical photographic processes have the status of cultural heritage. Through his artistic work, Dario Jurjević has contributed to this process of creating cultural heritage.
The exhibited photographs are based on urban motifs from Rijeka and Istria. All photographs are handmade using the mentioned techniques, requiring patience and dedication to every detail, ultimately producing unpredictable results characteristic of traditional photographic methods. This is Dario Jurjević’s eighth solo exhibition.
In addition to the exhibition, Dario Jurjević will hold seven workshops and presentations on old photographic techniques for students of Rovinj primary schools on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20. A workshop for members and the public is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 to 12:30. With the assistance of Ermano Bančić, secretary of PAG Batana, the processes of Van Dyke and Cyanotype will be demonstrated. Students will participate in creating their own works using the Cyanotype technique.
