INTIMATE – The Mascarelli Collection
At the Rovinj-Rovigno City Museum, the second in a series of exhibitions dedicated to Bruno Mascarelli is opening, marking the centenary of the artist’s birth.
The exhibition Intimate – The Mascarelli Collection presents lesser-known and rarely exhibited works from the artist’s legacy. It opens with four self-portraits created shortly after Mascarelli’s arrival in Rovinj. This was a period of artistic maturation, in which influences from the Zagreb Academy intertwined with contemporary Italian artistic poetics. These self-portraits allow visitors to gain insight into the most intimate parts of the artist’s soul. Alongside them, the essential motif of the female figure appears in all its forms.
Mascarelli lived, worked, socialized, and reflected in a house at 46 Grisija Street. Part of the exhibition is a homage to this space, as well as a reminiscence of the artist holding a cigarette, immersed in deep contemplation. A testimony to those moments is a series of assemblages made from empty cigarette boxes, created between the early 1990s and 2003. The exhibition concludes with two large-format paintings created a decade before the artist’s death.
The exhibition is authored and curated by Elizabeta Rogović.
