Rovinj regatta of traditional boats with lug and latin sail
The Rovinj regatta of traditional boats with lug and latin sail is an event that has been held in the Rovinj waters since 2006 in the first half of June. The goal of the event from the very beginning has been to preserve the knowledge and skill of sailing with lug and latin sail, as well as the techniques of its construction and especially painting. Thanks to the activities of associations and individuals, including the Ecomuseum Batana, traditional sailing with lug and latin sail along the Croatian coast was included in the Register of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Croatia at the end of 2022.
The regatta brings together around 40 boats from the wider Adriatic region, especially northern Italy, Slovenia and Istria and Primorje-Gorski Kotar counties. The accompanying program intended for all generations celebrates maritime culture in a creative way, including related artistic expressions, thus marking the identity value, boats, batanas for the residents of Rovinj and all lovers of maritime heritage.
