Serenissima Montona
On Sunday, 16 August, the streets and squares of Motovun will once again come alive with the spirit of centuries past through the costumed interpretive walk “Serenissima Montona”, dedicated to the town’s Venetian heritage.
Through a series of thematic stops, participants will discover Motovun as it was during the rule of the Venetian Republic – the Serenissima, which governed the town for a full 526 years. The walk will be led by Venetian Captain Sebastian Venier, portrayed by licensed tourist guide Mate Mekiš, and Cecilia Contarini, portrayed by tourist guide Martina Trento Dagostini.
The programme will also feature around twenty costumed performers from the Italian Community of Buje – Comunità degli Italiani “Buie” and the Italian Community “Giuseppe Tartini” of Piran – Comunità degli Italiani “Giuseppe Tartini” di Pirano. Through their characters, costumes and scenes, they will help recreate the everyday life and atmosphere of Motovun during the era of the Serenissima, while bringing to life stories connected with the town’s history and identity.
The “Sebastian” group departs at 6:20 PM, while the “Cecilia” group departs at 6:40 PM. Participation is free of charge, and places are limited. Registration is available via the registration form.
