Bogumil Car – Non-Belonging as a Perspective
On Friday, September 11, an exhibition of works by the artist Bogumil Car will open. The exhibition opening will begin at 7:00 PM at the Rovinj-Rovigno City Museum and continue at 8:00 PM at the Multimedia Centre.
The exhibition Bogumil Car – Non-Belonging as a Perspective offers an overview of the work of an artist who, despite an exceptionally broad and valuable body of work, remained on the margins of Croatian art history. Bogumil Car was a painter, draughtsman, illustrator and caricaturist, but above all, an artist who remained faithful to his own artistic sensibility throughout his life, refusing to align himself with the dominant artistic movements of his time.
In 1954, Car moved to Rovinj, where he spent the final fifteen years of his life. During this period, he worked intensively, capturing the streets and landscapes of Rovinj and portraying the everyday life of the city – its inhabitants, fishermen, workers, artists, passers-by and the changes brought about by the post-war period. He can therefore be regarded as a kind of chronicler of Rovinj, one who did not simply document reality, but infused it with his own memories, emotions and sense of atmosphere. His distinctive critical perspective is also evident in his drawings and caricatures, which often addressed the prevailing artistic scene of Rovinj.
At the Rovinj-Rovigno City Museum, the exhibition will be on view until October 31, while at the Multimedia Centre it will remain open until October 10.
The exhibition has been organised in collaboration between the Rovinj-Rovigno City Museum, Kontura Auction House and the Public Open University of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno.
