Šavrinke Festival

Šavrinke were women who once travelled between the coast and inland Istria, carrying and selling locally produced goods. Through their hard work, perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit, they left a lasting mark on the cultural and social history of the region.

Šavrinke were an integral part of everyday life in Istria. They travelled long distances on foot between villages and towns, carrying and selling eggs, milk, bread, vegetables and other homemade products. Their routes were more than just trading connections: they were also channels for exchanging news, experiences and knowledge, bringing together people from different parts of Istria. Today, the historical role of the Šavrinke is being rediscovered and presented in a contemporary way, linking cultural heritage with local products, gastronomy and sustainable tourism.

Bringing the past and present together, the festival invites visitors to discover different aspects of the Šavrinke’s way of life and heritage, as well as the richness of Istrian tradition. The programme includes guided tours, culinary and creative workshops, art activities and musical performances.
