Boulevard World Genius


A five-kilometre long route, which stretches from Bale down to the sea, is a sort of gallery displaying monumental sculptures dedicated to the world's greatest minds, who have shaped our past, present and will certainly continue to leave a mark well into the future.

These are all works made by students from the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts in Venice, Bologna, Milan, Turin, Rijeka and Zagreb, who have been able to transform the Istrian stone into impressive works of art.

1. Aristotle
Greek philosopher, scientist and polymath.
His teachings, along with those of Socrates and Plato, laid the foundations of Western philosophy.

2. Hypatia
The first known female mathematician to make a substantial contribution to the development of mathematics.
Hypatia's most famous work is cantered around conic sections.

3. Albert Einstein
German-born theoretical physicist, the world's greatest scientist.
With the theory of relativity he laid the foundations for the further development of theoretical physics.

4. Charles Robert Darwin
English scientist and naturalist.
The author of the first modern theory of biological evolution, named Darwinism in his honour.

5. Marie Curie
Polish-born chemist and physicist.
She researched and coined the term radioactivity, and discovered two chemical elements, radium and polonium.

6. Nelson Mandela
South Africa's first democratically elected president, revered as the symbol of the struggle against apartheid and the greatest fighter for human rights.

7. Mahatma Gandhi
Indian politician who fought for Indian independence through a non-violent revolution.
Also known as a defender of fundamental human rights of Indian people.

8. Galileo Galilei
Italian physicist, astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, advocate of the Copernicus' heliocentric system that places the Sun at the centre of the universe.

9. Christopher Columbus
Italian explorer, navigator, and pioneer.
His expeditions led to the first lasting European contact with the Americas.

10. Leonardo da Vinci
Italian painter, architect, inventor, musician, sculptor, engineer, that is, the greatest Renaissance genius.
Leonardo’s ideas are contained in over 6,000 surviving pages of his notebooks.

11. Nikola Tesla
Croatian inventor, physicist, electrical engineer, and futurist.
The father of multi-phase power systems, dubbed as the inventor of the electrical age.

12. Walter ˝Walt˝ Disney
American animator and producer. He is largely thought to be responsible for the popularisation of animation.
His first success came with the creation of the animated hero, the legendary Mickey Mouse.

13. Tim Berners Lee
British computer scientist, the most famous inventor of the World Wide Web.
He presented to the public the world's first website, and is known as the father of Internet.
