NOVA Eroica Istria returns in 2026 to the roads of the Istrian peninsula, this time in spring, on May 1st and 2nd, a perfect weekend for a nature escape and the start of the outdoor season.

Even in its debut edition in Croatia, held in September 2025, the event quickly established itself as one of the region’s most distinctive gravel cycling experiences, thanks to Istria’s iconic country roads, authentic local flavors, and its unmistakable atmosphere.

„Istria has everything a true Eroica should offer: a network of sterrato roads, outstanding gastronomy, and landscapes that leave a lasting impression. We want every participant to take home the essence of the region - to taste, see, and feel Istria in a way that is only possible by bike," says Denis Ivošević, Director of the Istria Tourist Board. 

Saturday brings three routes with over 80% on gravel trails
The main day of the festival features three thoughtfully designed gravel routes that showcase the very best of the Istrian landscape. With more than 80% of the total distance on gravel roads, a defining characteristic of NOVA Eroica Istria since its inaugural edition, the event delivers an authentic gravel experience. The main ride takes place on Saturday, May 2nd, with three routes offering different levels of challenge and discovery, each revealing a unique side of Istria:

• Truffles Route is the longest and most demanding option: a 150-kilometer ride that winds through the picturesque towns of northwestern Istria
• Teran Route, at 100 kilometers, strikes a balanced blend of sporting challenge and scenic pleasure, guiding riders across rolling hills, vineyards, and through the town of Motovun
• Malvasia Route is perfect for those seeking a more relaxed experience. This 60-kilometer route is ideal for recreational cyclists and riders who prefer a gentler pace, while still enjoying equally breathtaking views

Friday is dedicated to family rides and a vintage atmosphere
The first day of the festival, on May 1st, features a program perfectly suited to kicking off the long weekend:
• Vintage Tour – for classic bicycles and retro style enthusiasts
• Ciclo Club Eroica Tour – a gourmet ride through local farms and villages
• Eroica Family Bike Tour – a recreational ride designed for all generations

The May Day weekend offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy quality time outdoors, blending sport, nature, excellent food, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Novigrad as the festival hub of the Eroica community
Once again, Novigrad will host the start and finish of all rides, transforming into a lively meeting point for cyclists and visitors throughout the Eroica weekend. The EXPO area, tastings, live music, and all-day social gatherings create a festival atmosphere, perfectly aligned with the spirit of the first weekend of May.
