The tourist milieu has received great news from the USA – the influential website Fodors.com has included Istria among the most interesting travelling destinations in 2012 in the world. This is a website with more than 1,5 million visits that operates within Fodor's Travel, the biggest world publisher of travel and tourism publications in English language.

Under the title Go List 2012, Fodor's recommends 21 destinations – cities, countries and regions popular in this year, whether as locations hosting interesting events, of rich and unusual contents and landscapes or good prices.

Istria is included in the subcategory Emerging Hotspots along with Wales, Cuba, Columbia, Ruanda, South Korea and Panama. Among others, the list includes even London as the host of the Olympic Games and Belfast as the city in which Titanic was built and sailed from a hundred years ago.

''Truffles and hilltop towns are popular in Croatia..'', says Fodor's in its article on Istria, denoting it as the ''peninsula opposite Venice''. Istria is presented as Tuscany, but as a financially more accessible region and a significantly less crowded one.

Among the attractions they pointed out the medieval towns, especially Rovinj and Motovun, kilometres of vineyards and restaurants which serve seafood, pizzas and pasta dishes topped with locally foraged truffles. Furthermore, the editorial board concluded that the best truffles in the world do not come from Italy, but precisely from Istria!

Fodor's recommends to the readers Kempinski Hotel Adriatic in Savudrija, family hotel San Rocco with a gourmet restaurant in Brtonigla and Zigante Restaurant in Livade, suggesting autumn as the best season to visit Istria for the grape and olive harvest, truffle season and warm weather.
