Istrian shooter Giovanni Cernogoraz wins gold in London!

The 29-year-old Istria's sports shooter Giovanni Cernogoraz won the Olympic gold medal in men's trap yesterday. In the final shooting event, Cernogoraz faced the reigning world champion Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy, earning Croatia the second gold medal at the London Olympic Games.

With the achievement of this excellent sportsman from Istrian town of Novigrad, the total number of medals won by Croatians at the Summer Olympics has now amounted to three.

Although a surprise to some, Cernogoraz's medal could hardly astonish the better informed, given his series of excellent results before the Olympics. Having won the World Cup in Beijing last year, he went on to become the European champion in May this year. 

His hometown of Novigrad  is still in awe at the spectacular results of the young shooter, who will return to Istria today. A welcome party is in order for him, preprared by his friends, colleagues and fans. Calm and modest, the winner will soon resume his usual duties at the family's restaurant in Novigrad.
