About the event:

International choir festival

The "Musica sacra über die Grenzen" festival, which conductor Manfred Linsbauer started more than 20 years ago with the idea that residents of Austria and neighboring countries create music together, took place in Croatia for the first time in 2015. The host countries of previous editions of Musica Sacre were Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy and Slovenia, and thanks to the hotel company Maistra, the Tourist Board of Vrsar, the association and the mixed choir Roženice from Pazin, Croatia also appeared on the festival map and became the traditional host of the festival in October. During the three-day program, there will be sacred music concerts, friendship concerts dedicated to the International Day of Choir Singing, a vocal workshop and a round table for all representatives of choirs. Chorus Augustini from Slovakia, Trinity Boys and Mens Choir from Denmark, Schola cantorum Trichianensis from Italy, Vocal group Tamariska from Slovakia, Mecsek Kórus from Hungary and Croatia, Chamber Choir Ivan Filipović from Zagreb, Women's Choir Mendula from Vrsar, MPZ Roženice from Pazin, Choir of the Poreč Art School, Choir of the Rovinj Music School, Teranka Women's Klapa and Choralists of St. Francis from Rovinj will participate in this year's festival.

The festival will begin with a festive opening concert in Vrsar in the Church of St. Mary of the sea on Friday, October 14, starting at 8:00 p.m. The chosen representative of Croatia, the Chamber Choir Ivan Filipović from Zagreb, will be presented with the choirs: Mendule from Vrsar, Choir of the Art School from Poreč, Chorus Augustini from Slovakia, Trinity Boys and Mens Choir from Denmark, Schola cantorum Trichianensis from Italy, Female vocal group Tamariska from Slovenia and Mecsek Kórus from Hungary.

On Saturday, October 15, friendship concerts will be held in Funtana starting at 4:00 p.m. and in Pazin starting at 6:00 p.m., thus marking the International Day of Choral Singing.

The Musica Sacra Festival ends on Sunday, October 16, with a festive concert at 4:00 PM in the magnificent Church of St. Eufemia in Rovinj, when the choirs will present themselves with a selection from their sacred repertoire and a joint musical program in which they will perform the compositions of Zdravo Marijo Ivana Pl. Zajc, Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus and Gerhard Lagrange's Laudate omnes gentes, which is also the anthem of this festival. The final gala concert will be realized in cooperation with the MBA Foundation of Dr. Dino Škrapić from Rovinj.

More than 300 singers will play music in 4 concerts during the 3 days of the festival and, traveling through Istria, they will get to know and visit the interesting places of our destination. The Danish Trinity Boys and Mens Choir will stay in Vrsar for a few more days and will hold another friendship concert together with the choir of the Poreč Art School and the Rovinj Music School in Vrsar. The concert will be held on Monday, October 17, in the Church of St. Mary of the sea starting at 6:00 p.m.
Admission to all concerts is free.
