The building of the Faculty of Philosophy in Pula

The Faculty of Philosophy in Pula is located inside the beautiful Secession building erected in the early 20th c. It was originally used by the Regional School for Women in Italian, then by the Giosuè Carducci High School between the two wars, and the Pedagogy Academy since 1961. In the early 21st century, it grew into the University of Juraj Dobrila.

The building is richly decorated by floreal motifs, coats of arms of Istrian towns and allegories known as stile floreale or stile Liberty. The three storey building consists of the central part and the two lateral wings.

The central part and the wing finishes are emphasized by an oriel. The main facade is decorated by a relief floral motif band located right under the roof. The space between the rectangular windows on the second floor is also decorated. The ground floor has additionally been emphasized by rustic details on its walls. The balcony with its carved stone fence is above the main entrance.
