Istrian building heritage of the Venetian era

The Podesta Palace

The houses in Grožnjan, located on the hilltop, are built closely to each other, which underlines the medieval structure of the town. Having transferred the Captaincy in Rašpor in 1394, the town was ruled by a Venetian nobleman as the podestà. From the early 16th century, podestà heads of Grožnjan were elected among Koper nobles, who erected the Renaissance palace in Grožnjan in 1588, redecorated in the Baroque style in 1726.
