Per aspera ad astra - Through hardship to the stars
It was a long path full of challenges, learning, as well as a daily desire for new and different things, but always of extremely high quality, up until the day when Rovinj's Monte restaurant became the proud owner of a Michelin star.
The lavish rhapsody of fragrances, flavours and colours interwoven with the dreamy and romantic ambience interlaced with dignified Istrian stone, are the perfect combination recognised by the world's most elite gastro guide.
Twenty-years effort to recognise the quality of Istrian cuisine, but also to encourage Istrian chefs to raise the quality of their food preparation and to use the first-class and indigenous, local ingredients, came to fruition - and a prestigious Michelin star finally came to Croatia! To Istria!
Monte Restaurant, located on a picturesque hillside below the church of St. Euphemia in Rovinj, with its long-term investment, work and love has reached this enviable height, and its first Croatian star is an additional motivation for further progress. The owners, husband and wife both chefs, Daniel and Tjitske Đekić, travel the world tasting the finest quality food, learning and perfecting their own technique in order to transfer their interpretation onto the dishes of the Monte Restaurant. All their travels and experiences are plain to see in their food, but what gives them an utter diversity are those dishes made from the most highly regarded Istrian ingredients.
