Travel+Leisure: Belle of the Balkans

The influential American magazine, Travel+Leisure, is bringing a large report on Istria on as many as nine pages in its September edition!

Journalist Adam Erace arrived in Istria in May, and after a seven-day stay declared that it was still too short a time to get to know our region properly. He did not hide his enthusiasm for the largest Croatian peninsula however, describing Istria as a region of extremely rich cultural and natural heritage.

The award-winning author from Philadelphia has had his work published in more than 50 publications, writing about food and travel, reviewing restaurants for Fortune, as well as being co-author of several publications in the field of gastronomy.

He says that, as has been pointed out in the editorial of the magazine, Istria "broke" all his expectations in the best possible way, on his first trip outside the USA after the pandemic. Discovering Istria, its history, people and stories, he toured the length and breadth of the peninsula, admitting that he had never had such a busy schedule on his travels. Recognising the offer and top-quality products and delicacies created in a blend of tradition and modernity, he described Istria in the words of his host winemakers and the local craft beer and gin producers, as a region of fantastic pizza, but also of top Michelin-starred restaurants.

"Some destinations hide their treasures, but Istria offers everything on a table spread under the vines and covers everything in world-class olive oil," he said in a post on Instagram, thanking his hosts for their generosity in sharing their fascinating corner of the world, whilst at the same time warning readers not to start reading "on an empty stomach"!

The director of Istria Tourist Board, Denis Ivošević, does not hide his satisfaction with that published: "This report on the destination has told in as many as nine pages in a magazine popular throughout the world is a fantastic success, but when we add that the report is also the cover story of a media tourism leader, it literally leaves you without words!

With a circulation of 970,000 copies, the print edition of the magazine is followed by more than 6.1 million readers and digitally by a further 15.4 million, while on social networks Travel+Leisure brings together more than 14 million fans.

As part of the Travel+Leisure Group, the New York-based American monthly encourages its readers, all passionate travellers from around the world, to "travel more and travel better," offering inspiration and content that will enhance their experiences and turn them into exceptional ones. The first issue of the magazine was published in 1937 under the title U.S. Camera and Travel, and took its current name in 1971.
