Cuj - Wine & Olive Oil is a farm owned by Danijel Kraljević, who created it in 2000 near Umag, a small town and port situated in the particular horseshoe-shaped lagoon in the north-west of the Istrian coast. There are 5 hectares of specialized olive grove with 1,500 trees. In the last harvest almost 33 hectolitres of extra virgin olive oil were produced from 250 quintals of olives. There are two Extra Virgin selections Cuj, the Monocultivar Črna and Selekcija, which we recommend. It is an intense limpid golden yellow colour with slight green hues. Its aroma is elegant and ample, with rich notes of artichoke, wild chicory and thistle, enriched by intense aromatic hints of black pepper, mint and rosemary. Its taste is fine and strong, with a flavour of lettuce and a distinct almond finish. Bitterness is powerful and pungency is definite. It would be ideal on bruschette with tomatoes, swordfish carpaccio, marinated tuna, baked radicchio, lentil purée, pasta with porcini mushrooms, steamed blue fish, grilled lamb, barbecued pork, medium mature cheese.
