Žminjska štuorija - Story about Žminj

Every Wednesday, during the summer months, the Žminj Tourist Board organizes a free sightseeing tour with an English-speaking guide.

The meeting place is in front of the Tourist Board’s office, next to the medieval Tower. Through a one-hour tour you will get to know the history of Žminj and its inhabitants, their customs and language, sacred and secular architectural heritage, as well as a story about how the people there lived and what they did over the centuries, how they had fun, what they ate and where you can still find and experience it all today.

From the Tower, the route takes you to the Chakavian House and the famous Žminj well, and continues along the ancient Štrada stone street. After visiting the Canonical House, St. Trinity’s chapel and St. Anthony’s Church, the tour ends at the local Zad kaštela square, where guests are welcomed by stalls with delicacies from local producers including cakes from the Erman patisserie, vegetables from the Povratak prirodi family farm, sausages from the Žminjski gušti family farm, as well as brandies and liqueurs from the Frane distillery.

Besides tasting homemade bread, you can also see how typical local pasta, makaruni and fuži are prepared, and listen to the story of Žminj coffee, of course, with a tasting!

You will also discover what the Kristova kruna (Crown of Christ) and the Žminjski ricin are! A traditional Žminj cake is hidden under one name, whilst a replica of an earring, an archaeological find from the old Croatian cemetery in Žminj, is under the other.

Enjoy the Story about Žminj!
