The Istria Tourist Board has published a new guide for the Peninsula's gourmet offer. Along with detailed information on the richness of eno-gastronomic offer integrated in this unique publication with translation in four languages, the cover of Istria Gourmet 2013 also brings the fresh view of the communication concept.  Istria Gourmet couples several projects including the promotion of native cuisine and high quality Istrian delicacy, the selection of best gastronomic addresses in Istria, wine and olive tourism related projects all additionally enriched by the promotion of truffles as an exceptional Istrian gastronomic product.

Verification of restaurant quality in Istria and their ranking according to awarded grades began in 1996. Of the 50 catering establishments, which were published in the first gastronomic guide, we have reached 211 of them, which speaks volumes about the dynamic development of the Istrian gastronomy scene over the last seventeen years. Always adhering to the same evaluation criteria, this year we present to you 122 restaurants (with 80 or more points), 54 taverns, 10 distinguished a la carte restaurants within the major hotels and 25 objects (in section 'and more..'), which do not fall in one of the previous categories but are worth visiting as each of them provides their own specialty (prosciutto ham tasting, cheese tasting, delicious desserts, etc.).

The Istrian gastronomic mosaic is diverse and rich. The following pages will introduce luxury restaurants with their exclusive offer and traditional taverns, which still prepare the majority of their meals on the hearth. There are also agrotouristic households, offering traditional dishes from home stoves (prepared from food from their own family farms) and there are several most simple inns where you can feel the charm of traditional Istrian brunch with the tripe, soup from corn, frittata with asparagus and marinated anchovies. All these establishments are presented in alphabetical order, with their basic information and recommendations for which dishes they are known.

The very best restaurants and taverns from this year’s charts, we marked with the label TOP 2013. This prestigious award, this year will be carried by nine restaurants, one of which is within a hotel, and five taverns.
