White and black truffles thrive naturally in the Istrian truffle triangle, located between Pazin, Buje and Buzet - particularly in the Mirna River valley and the Motovun Forest. Truffle-themed events take place throughout September, October, and November, so be sure to visit during the renowned Truffle Days in Istria.
If you’re planning a trip to Rovinj, don’t miss the Paths of Rovinj Delicacies where you can enjoy exceptional eno-gastronomic specialities at some of the region’s most famous restaurants. Istria’s charming towns also host a variety of welcoming local events. For example, at Kestenijada - Chestnut Festivity in Oprtalj, you can taste delicious dishes and pastries made with chestnuts. If you're a fan of mushrooms, don’t miss the gastronomic events dedicated to this prized autumn’s forest delicacy, especially if you’re visiting the areas around Novigrad or Brtonigla.
The International Prosciutto Fair (ISAP) is held every October in Tinjan. For generations, homemade Istrian prosciutto has been one of the region’s most treasured and proudly presented culinary products. Also not to be missed is the New Wine Festivity in the town of Svetvinčenat, located in the heart of Istria. Surrounded by the sights, scents, and flavours of autumn, you’ll have the chance to sample excellent local wines served from barrels set up near the Grimani Castle.
The Traditional Exhibition of Istrian Grappa (brandy) is held in Hum, known as the smallest town in the world. This event celebrates a unique type of brandy traditionally made from grape marc, often enriched with aromatic herbs, medicinal plants, or various fruits.
In November, ISTRAVIRGIN – New Olive Oil Days takes place in Vodnjan. Discover the distinctive flavours of freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil through guided tastings and informative lectures.
