Olive Varieties

Introduced varieties

Moraiolo

MoraioloOrigin
Tuscany (Italy). Cultivated in Istria since 1940.

Agro biological properties
Not vigorous. Thick, erect foliage which expands during fruit bearing. Leaves are elliptical and tapered, medium in size, and dark green with silver-green on the reverse. Drupes are small (1,5 - 2g), rounded and symmetrical. Irregular, gradual maturation, difficult for mechanical harvesting due to strong attachment to the stem. Medium early cultivar (early November).

Fruit bearing
Average to high, continuous.

Fertilization
Anemophile (wind carried). Recommended fertilizers: Pendolino, Maurino.

Resistance to adversities
It is susceptible to peacock (or eye) spot (spilocea oleagina). Moderately resistant to lower temperatures.

Quality of the oil
Highly appreciated for its aromas, flavors and yield. Excellent if harvested begins when the olives turn dark purple.
